Abstract :
Nowadays, biopolymer and biocomposite materials attract great attention regarding environmental sustainability and renewable resource use. In order to optimize the mechanical properties of these materials, intensive research is being conducted on the effects of changes in production parameters. The literature shows that changes in production methods, additives used, environmental conditions, and other processing parameters significantly affect the mechanical properties of biopolymers and biocomposites in terms of strength, flexibility, impact resistance, and hardness. This review examines how the mechanical properties of biopolymers and biocomposites change with various production parameters; thus, it aims to contribute to the determination of the most appropriate production recipes according to the application areas and needs. In this context, the findings in the existing literature are summarized, and suggestions that shed light on future studies are presented.
