Color Fastness of Plant-Based Natural Dyes on Printed Cotton Fabric: A Comparative Study

Abstract :
In the present work, the suitability of four plant-based natural dyes (Gall oak-Quercus infectoria Oliever (G), Pomegranate peel-Punica Granatum (P), Weld-Reseda Luteola (W), Valonia oak-Quercus Ithaburensis Decaisne (VO)) for printing cotton fabric using the all-over printing technique has been explored. A greener thickener, carboxymethyl cellulose, was used to provide ecological printing. Four printing paste were prepared using the same mordant material. The effect of natural dyes extracted from different plants on the fastness of printed cotton fabric was evaluated. Since, urea waste causes eutrophication in water, it is aimed to achieve the same fastness values by using optimization chemicals instead of urea.
