Abstract :
Synthesis of the new size based on the modification of maize starch, as well as its application in the sizing process of cotton yarn are presented in this paper. As the last pre-weaving process, sizing processes is extremely important both from the point of view of productive weaving and the production of a quality final product-fabric. The starch modification consisted of acid hydrolysis in order to reduce the dimensions of the macromolecules to which the acrylamide was subsequently graft, or its polymer. The conditions of starch modification were optimized, the final product-copolymer was characterized by determining the success of grafting, molecular mass, infrared spectroscopy, viscosity. Also, the process of cotton yarn sizing is done on a laboratory machine for sizing and checked effects through the analysis of the sized yarn. It has been found that the proven properties of sized yarn, strength, elongation, hairiness, unevenness, wear resistance, desizing have sufficient values for application in practice.
