Abstract :
In order to functionalization of recycled polypropylene (rPP), rPP was modified by melt grafting reaction in the presence of methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomer and oxidized polyolefin (OxPO) in extruder. The peroxide-containing initiator was used for monomer grafting. Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results indicated that the monomer had been grafted onto polypropylene backbone. Mechanical (elongation and tensile strength) properties of the produced composites were measured according to ISO 527-2 standard method. It was observed that the tensile strength and elongation, which are the mechanical properties of (OxPO/MMA)/rPP composite, increased compared to rPP. The thermal stability of the composites was examined by TGA analysis. According to the results of thermal gravimetric analysis, there was an increase in the thermal stability of composites. The effect of monomer and initiator concentrations was also investigated.
