Abstract :
Nanofibers-based products find extensive applications across various industries such as electronics, biomedicine, and food processing. Particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic, the market for non-woven fibres, valued at 40.5 billion USD in 2020, is projected to escalate to 53.3 billion USD by 2025. Among the methods employed for producing nanofibers-based goods, electrospinning (ES) stands out as the most prevalent technique, while solution blow spinning (SBS) and electro-blow spinning (EBS) also hold prominence. This study aims to compare these three nanofiber production methods, using PVDF in DMF as the carrier solution. PVDF fibres were spun at different solution concentrations (10, 15, and 20 wt.%) at various feed rates of (2, 4, and 6 ml/h), while maintaining constant air pressure and voltage at 4 bars and 20 kV, respectively. The morphology and structure of the PVDF nanofibers were analysed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and piezoelectric measurement setup. Electrospinning yielded the smallest nanofibers diameter of 71 nm; however, electro-blow spinning exhibited the highest piezoelectric sensitivity, reaching up to 28 V/N. and the highest β phase fraction at 65%. Conversely, solution blow spinning demonstrated the highest crystallinity of 35%. Our research asserts that combining an electric field with pressurised air in electro blow spinning renders it the most advantageous spinning method regarding the stability of the solution jet, the continuity of the process, and the yield of nanofiber production
