Abstract :
Many shape memory epoxy composites are produced by using epoxy matrix with filler materials as well as different kinds of curing agents [1]. In this study, diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) was cured by methyl nadic anhydride (MNA) and cycloaliphatic polyamine (ipox EH 2041), respectively. Also, sepiolite was used as a filler to investigate the effects of filler on the shape memory properties of the epoxy composites. Tensile tests and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses were conducted to examine the mechanical and thermal characteristics of the composites, respectively. Moreover, shape memory properties were investigated by using bending tests. The influence of recovery temperature and repeated cycles on the shape memory properties of the composites were revealed in the case of different recovery temperatures and cycle parameters. As a result, the recovery values of MNA and cycloaliphatic polyamine cured epoxy composites were around 99% and 98%, respectively. Additionally, the glass transition temperature (Tg) of the composites (MNA/sepiolite and cycloaliphatic polyamine/sepiolite) were around 47.2 and 50.4 oC, respectively.
