Abstract :
In the automotive industry, the recovery and reuse of waste are gaining importance for sustainability. The use of thermoset waste from the automotive industry as a filler material reduces environmental issues such as the storage and disposal of these wastes and can also provide cost savings. In this study, the use of thermoset waste generated in the automotive industry for the production of environmentally friendly composites was investigated. Ground thermoset waste and polypropylene were blended using the melt blending method at waste ratios ranging from 5% to 40%. DSC, MFI, FTIR, and density measurements were performed on the samples produced by injection molding in accordance with ISO 294 standards. DSC analysis showed that the crystalline melting temperatures of the composites ranged between 162.8°C and 165.15°C. When comparing the densities of the composites, it was observed that the density increased with the increasing content of thermoset waste. These findings suggest that the incorporation of thermoset waste into polymer composites not only helps to reduce environmental waste but also maintains acceptable thermal and physical properties. The increase in density with higher waste content could indicate improved structural integrity, making these composites suitable for various automotive applications, potentially lowering both material costs and the environmental impact of the industry.
