Abstract :
Holes may sometimes need to be drilled into composites for assembly or structural connections. During production or maintenance, problems such as incorrect drilling, inadequate fastener installation, and missing fasteners may occur. In such cases, composite materials can be repaired. In this study, composites were produced from glass fiber reinforced polyester by hand lay-up method. Four different groups of composites were produced; undamaged, drilled, repaired with light-curable resin, and repaired with unsaturated polyester resin. During the manufacturing and repair steps, 10% Aluminum trihydroxide (ATH) (Al(OH)3) was also added to the resin. Afterwards, the samples were subjected to tensile testing and horizontal burning tests. When the test results were examined, it was determined that the highest strength values in tensile tests were obtained in the groups with 10% ATH added. When horizontal combustion tests were examined, the lowest flame speeds were observed in the groups with 10% ATH addition. As a result, the addition of ATH positively affected both the mechanical and fireproof behavior of the composite.
