Abstract :
Carnauba wax is a natural wax derived from the leaves of the Copernicia prunifera palm, which is native to Brazil. It is known as the "queen of waxes" due to its hardness and high melting point, around 82-86°C, making it one of the hardest natural waxes available. Carnauba wax is prized for its glossy finish, water-resistant properties, and hypoallergenic nature. It has a wide range of applications, from textile, car polishes and cosmetics to pharmaceuticals and food products (as a glazing agent). Carnauba wax mixed with HDPE (high-density polyethylene) emulsion is used in textile applications primarily as a finishing agent. It can provide water repellency, enhance fabric durability, and improve surface smoothness. The combination of carnauba wax, which is a natural wax known for its glossy finish and hydrophobic properties, with HDPE emulsion, which is a versatile polymer, creates a coating that enhances the functional properties of textiles. This mixture can also improve resistance to abrasion and reduce static buildup, making it ideal for various technical textiles and outdoor fabrics. In this study, carnauba wax is mixed with HDPE emulsion to observe textile applications. Firstly, HDPE is loaded into the reactor with using carnauba wax. Using proper emulgators, it is emulsified in high pressure vessel. Emulsion properties are investigated.
