Abstract :
Sodium hydroxide (NaOH), known as caustic and caustic soda, is a white coloured solid ionic compound. It has high alcaline properties with a pH value of 13.5 and is used for many different purposes in the textile industry. In 100% polyester woven fabrics that we produce in our plant, it is used to improve the touch of the fabric by separating the yarn filaments from each other before the dyeing process. In textile industry production processes, chemical consumption is intensive and constitutes an important part of production costs. Caustic has an important share in these chemical materials. In addition, it is effective in increasing the treatment costs with the chemical loads carried by wastewater. Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to reduce the amount of caustic used in the plant and to improve all these negative effects. Fong’s ECO-8-D Machine was selected for the project. Machine for jersey double knit, fleece etc. İt is a general dyeing machine for textile product. The dyeing machine discharges the caustic water mixture at the end of the process and the mixture is taken to another tank with a pump placed at the end of the process. The mixture taken into the reserve tank was kept for the next process. With the pump integrated into the discharge system of the fabric dyeing machine, a system was created to send the mixture to another tank and then to the machine's own reserve tank with a pump and line installation. The fabric types to be causticised were selected and causticisation was applied to the determined fabric type. The process was repeated continuously and an optimisation study was carried out. It was determined that the caustic-water mixture did not make any difference in the fabric up to three cycles. It was determined that the desired effect on the fabrics was not achieved in five and more cycles. When the fabrics were evaluated in terms of dyeing performances, physical tests, handle and appearance, the use of caustic-water mixture three times in a row did not create any difference in the mentioned parameters. As a result, this approach provides great benefits both economically and ecologically, paving the way for more sustainable and environmentally friendly production processes in textile production. When the necessary calculations are made, a caustic gain of 66% is achieved and this allows both production costs and wastewater treatment costs to be significantly reduced and environmental impacts to be minimised.
