Synthesis, Characterization and Swelling Study of Hydrogels Containing TiO2@Ag Nanoparticle

Abstract :
Most of the materials used in packaging applications today are based on plastics obtained from hydrocarbon fuels. Most polymers are not biodegradable. Considering the popularity of polymers in industry, a great danger awaits ecology. The high water absorption capacity, biocompatibility, biodegradability, mechanical durability and functional properties of hydrogels are increased in food packaging. These parts and through optimization can be adapted to meet the needs of various packaging applications. Making hydrogels biodegradable increases their advantage for use in food packaging. In this way, it helps you minimize your carbon footprint. In this study, it is aimed to synthesize hydrogels that can be used in food packaging. Firstly, TiO2@Ag particles were synthesized using three different forms of TiO2. Then, 2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DMA) monomer was converted into βDMA monomer, which is a biocompatible zwitterionic monomer, using betaination chemistry. βDMA hydrogel and βDMA hybrid hydrogels containing TiO2@Ag were synthesized (βDMA-TiO2@Ag) using βDMA monomer. Swelling studies of these hydrogels in water at three different pH values (3, 7, 10) were performed and the swelling percentages were compared. These hydrogels are available in a variety of applications such as wounds, pharmaceutical treatments, and water purification, as well as food packaging. The synthesized materials were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, Infrared (IR) Spectroscopy and Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) devices.
