Abstract :
The widespread use of synthetic materials such as elastane in the textile industry plays an important role in providing comfort and flexibility properties. However, these synthetic elastic materials lead to environmental challenges in recycling processes and negative impacts in terms of sustainability. As stated in the European Commission's (Sustainable and Circular Textiles by 2030) report, the future of the textile industry focuses on sustainable materials and circular economy. In this study, the use of natural elastic materials as an alternative to elastane and the environmental impacts of these materials are discussed. Natural rubber stands out as a remarkable alternative in terms of flexibility and environmental sustainability. The mechanical behavior of denim fabrics developed with the use of natural elastic materials was examined and it was found that these fabrics showed superior performance characteristics compared to traditional elastane-containing fabrics [1].
