Development of textile structures with multifunctional properties from sustainable fiber blends

Abstract :
The changing life style and the new concepts that emerge with it also change and diversify people's expectations from textile products. Cell phones, computers, microwave ovens, televisions, which are frequently used in daily life, emit serious electromagnetic waves and cause serious damage to the human body that cannot be seen with the naked eye. In addition to harms such as stress, insomnia, memory loss, weight gain, biological effects such as developmental disorders, heart and brain disorders can be seen in the later stages. It is known that silver fiber, which has become very common in textiles, especially during the pandemic period, has protective effects against static electricity and electromagnetic radiation. In this study; It is aimed to develop a yarn and fabric structure with both ecological and protective properties by adding silver fiber to the natural biodegradable vegetable fibers that do not harm the environment, in order to develop a sustainable material life cycle and to produce a safe clothing. For this, hemp, bamboo, soybean and ramie fibers from vegetable fibers were used and silver fiber was added to the blend in certain blends with multifunctional properties. From the blend mixtures prepared in different compositions, yarn was produced at Ne 30/1 in the ring spinning system and by knitting single jersey knit fabrics from these yarns, antibacterial properties, electromagnetic shielding values and biodegradability tests were examined in the raw fabric structure.
